NaTrue-Label – the sign of authentic natural cosmetics
NaTrue is a group that lobbies for the interests of leading natural and organic cosmetics manufacturers in Europe and awards the NaTrue natural cosmetics label to products that satisfy the highest quality standards. This is to ensure a clearly defined meaning for the term “natural cosmetics”.
Since no legal definition of “natural cosmetics” exists, more and more products are being marketed as “natural” or “organic”. Besides, the market is full of innumerable natural emblems or organic labels, some of which employ very different evaluation criteria. The outcome is more confusion than orientation for all concerned.
The fact that the NaTrue label is only awarded to a natural or organic product if strict and clearly defined rules and evaluation criteria have been fulfilled will help to clarify the situation for manufacturers, retailers and consumers. The label ensures that an authentic natural or organic cosmetic product can be easily identified as such, and distinguished from conventional products.
The NaTrue label includes three categories of natural or organic cosmetics. Each category precisely defines the minimum content requirements for natural substances, the maximum limits for near-natural substances and the proportion of organically sourced natural substances. The three categories are easily identifiable because they are marked with one, two or three stars.
NaTrue cosmetics with a single star fulfil all the strict basic requirements for natural ingredients. For example, there is a clear definition of which gentle methods may be employed to process the ingredients.
