For many people, a holiday by the Atlantic Ocean, with sun, beach and sea breeze, is the icing on the cake when it comes to a successful holiday. In France and Ireland, sea spaghetti is considered an absolute delicacy, both fresh and dried.
If you want to bring coastal customs into your own home, you can, for example, enrich a pan-fried scampi dish with the mildly spicy algae and serve it as a maritime starter.
‘Sea spaghetti’ is the name of a brown algae that can grow up to 3 metres long. It stores the best of the sea in concentrated form: healthy sea minerals and iodine, which is essential for a good hormone metabolism. Versatile in use, e.g. in soups and pasta dishes, the algae sticks complement a varied diet.

Dried sea spaghetti must be soaked in sufficient water before use. For a raw vegetable or salad, soak in cold water for about 10 minutes and then drain. The water is not recommended for further use, because sea spaghetti contains a lot of iodine. They release about half of it into the water during soaking. By the way: the longer you soak the algae, the milder they become in flavour.
Cook for about 5 minutes in boiling salted water, then drain.
