As a lasting memento of your sponsorship, you will receive a certificate of sponsorship (in German) and an original hand-carved sea turtle made of beach wood. These carefully crafted wood carvings were made by the Ivorian artist Koné.
The little rascals measuring 8-10 cm in length are not only of high artistic quality, but also symbolically and very specifically help to preserve the marine ecosystem: all the proceeds from your personal sea turtle go directly to our ‘Protect the Ocean’ initiative.
From 2015 to 2022, the pilot project of this long-term commitment was aimed at protecting sea turtles on the beaches of Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast). Four endangered turtle species, such as the leatherback turtle, live in this marine region. At the end of 2020, the government of Côte d'Ivoire announced the establishment of West Africa's first coastal protected area in Grand-Béréby.
Since 2020, we have been supporting the environmental organisation One Earth - One Ocean e.V. (oeoo) in the recovery of ghost nets from the Baltic Sea with ‘Protect the Ocean’. Ghost nets are lost fishing nets that can become a death trap for marine mammals, fish, seabirds and molluscs and also break down into microplastic particles over time.
